Director, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (DNFIU), pays courtesy visit to Consumer Protection Council (CPC)

The Director, Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), Mr, Francis Usani, on Friday, 29th April 2016 paid a courtesy visit to the Consumer Protection Council (CPC). The DNFIU in line with NFIU’s commitment to continually enhance cooperation amongst domestic stakeholders considered the immense value the data from CPC could have on money laundering cases and typologies reached out to CPC seeking to achieve amongst other things the following:

 

1. Strategic partnership between CPC and NFIU

2. Appointment of authorized officer(s) to act as CPC liaison

As a result of the courtesy visit, an Officer will be appointed by the CPC to act as a liaison between the two agencies. The liaison will act as an authorized officer in the dissemination of intelligence between the two agencies

In response, the Director General (DG) of the CPC, Mrs. Dupe Atoki welcomed the collaborative efforts of the NFIU, and pledged the full support of her agency. The DG of the Consumer Protection Council recommended that a committee be established to work out the technical details of the interagency cooperation. The DNFIU also recommended an MOU be signed between both agencies in order to formalize their relationship.
